Si Reyes, ang igsoon ni kanhi national team head coach Chot Reyes, migiya sa SWU-Phinma men’s basketball team sa ilang unang titulo sulod sa lima ka tuig, human ilang gilupig ang defending champion University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers niadtong 2019 Cesafi season.
Sa interbyu sa Superbalita Cebu, si Reyes miingon nga magtutok una sila karon sa academic performance sa iyang mga batos tungod kay wala pa man gitugot nga makabalik ang pagpahigayon og praktis sa basketball.
Ang Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) mitugot na sa pagpraktis sa basketball sa lugar nga anaa sa Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) apan alang lang kini sa professional players sa Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).
“Ang plano namin sa school first is to make sure that all the students will pass all their grades, bawal ang failing grade,” sigon ni Reyes.
“If pwede na bumalik sa practice then we will do it gradually. Half of the team will play the half court para hindi magkasabay lahat. But for now since wala pa focus muna sa grades nila.”
Ang School Year 2020-2021 gilauman nga magsugod karong Agusto 24 subay sa gi-anunsiyo ni Education Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones. Apan tungod sa coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic i-paagi lang ang mga klase sa Remote Distance Learning o online classes.
Matod ni Reyes nga aduna siyay tulo ka players karon nga modesisyon pa kung moduwa sa sunod season sa Cesafi.
Apil niini si Cesafi MVP Shaquille Imperial, Gerald Fernandez ug Dyll Roncal.
“Silang tatlo eligible pa for one playing year. We’ll just wait for their decision if they will play on their final year,” sigon ni Reyes.
Sa team lineup niadtong 2019, ang nawala sa Cobras mao si guard Will Polican ug big man Red Cachuela, kinsa wala na’y playing years sa Cesafi.
Tungod sa kanselasyon sa Cesafi, adunay mga magduduwa nga gi-recruit sa Manila teams alang sa University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) o National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
Usa na niini si high school MVP ug pambato sa Ateneo Cebu nga si LA Casinillo nga naka-commit na sa University of Sto. Tomas Tiger Cubs.
Samtang ana pa sa quarantine ang tibuok Pilipinas ug ang Cebu City gipaubos pa sa Modified Enhance Community Quarantine (MECQ), gisugyot usa ni Reyes na mga individual conditioning ang mga players apan dili lang usa magpalabi.
“We encourage them to exercise dapat gawin at home to stay safe. Pero hindi natin ito hinihigpitan kasi ayaw naman natin ma-over train sila ngayon na wala pa’ng competition,” saysay ni Reyes. (RSC)
