Lizada: Be Like Pong

PONG is my dog. And he has this enviable habit of sleeping quickly. He falls asleep at lightning speed. When he gets to the foot of my bed, he snuggles, closes his eyes and just dozes off. I wish I could be like Pong, not only perhaps in the manner in which he falls asleep but in why he can fall asleep so easily. My dog does not have worries.

One problem he has is thunder. He is scared of it. He would even refuse food because of thunder and when Pong refuses food you know he is scared. One night we had a thunderstorm and this particular disturbance had a rather loud clap. We were having dinner at that time and Pong was on my right side waiting. This time he was not. I stood up and looked for him and he ran toward me and pointed me to our room. That is his safe place, at the foot of my bed. So I brought him there and I left the room but I kept the door open. There was a roar and sure Pong comes out scampering and hides under the dinner table. He does not come out for food, he is just terrified.

After, bring him back to the room. I lay on my bed and he snuggles in his position. And he just falls asleep with no dinner. The poor guy must have been afraid. But the thing is, he just falls asleep.

A lot of us cannot sleep because of anxiety, worry, and other imagined things. Not Pong, he just falls asleep. He has few problems and if he ever does, they are mostly external. He does not dwell on non-existent fears. Of course, it would be unfair to compare ourselves with Pong. He knows someone is watching over him. He knows that whenever thunder comes, he knows someone is there to comfort him and, thus, amidst the thunder he calmly sleeps, surrendering all in the knowledge and truth that someone looks out for him. He completely trusts and therefore he is calm.

We all have thunder in our lives. We all have storms. We have scary moments and sometimes the roar may be deafening. Sometimes we may not even hear ourselves amid the rumble. But let us remember one being who slept through the storm while his disciples were scared to paleness. He slept through the waves and the lightning and thunder because He was secure knowing that someone was watching over Him.
