Jorquia: Anti-Terrorism Law: Not a tool for tyranny and human rights violations

THE Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020 was not enacted to imposed oppression and abuse the rights of every Filipino.

This law is not intended to suppress the freedom of speech of the people because it clearly states that the law intends to protect and ensure the safety of every citizen against the threats of terrorism.

This is why the government has constantly explained that citizens should not be afraid of this law.

Because if we are going to assess, this mechanism and law are what we need to effectively combat and eliminate terrorism in our country.

Moreover, this law will be our foundation in accordance with the whole-of-nation approach against terrorism, in particular, the communist terrorists and violent extremists who have never been accused or imprisoned for their massive attacks and inciting violence against the country and the Filipino people.

Have we forgotten the deaths of many innocent Filipino in Marawi and Zamboanga Siege due to the terror attacks of rebel groups?

Should we let this kind of act and disturbance happen again and again in our country?

Many lives have been wasted due to the pointless armed struggle of CNTs and CTGs.

***

In my point of view, we owe this law to the countless victims of terrorism in our country.

From our indigenous brothers who were murdered, youth who are being infiltrated and deceived to become child warriors, legitimate businessmen who were abused, innocent civilians including women and children who were abused and mercilessly killed as happened in the Rano Massacre. In addition to this, countless policemen and soldiers have died defending the state against terrorism.

At this point, don't you think that we should be thankful that we have a law that will protect us from these terroristic problems?

It is not the Anti-Terror Law that will drag us down to tyranny and violence but rather the ideologies, deceptions and vehemence of terror being imposed by these terror groups.

We, Filipinos have the responsibility to fight for our rights to be free from the deceptions and infiltration of CNTs and CTGs.

It is our right to live in a country where peace and true prosperity exist.

It is our right to live in a place where there is a sense of giving value to life and concern for every Filipino.

If we are not terrorists, we have nothing to be afraid of with the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020.

It is only the left-leaning organizations who are saying that it will be used for abuse, human rights suppression and oppression on innocent citizens.

It is time for us to wake up and stand up against the lies and deceitful acts of these groups.

With the enactment of the anti-terrorism law, it is a call and a reminder to us that we need to unite and end the armed conflict and struggle.
