Galendez triumphs in Datba bowlfest

ART Galendez added a feather on his cap when he captured the Datba March monthly finals title held at the NCCC Mall B3 Centrum lanes recently.

Galendez pocketed a cash prize of P5,000, while runner-up Lito Baluran received P3,000 from the organizing Davao Tenpin Bowlers Association (Datba) under its president Dr. Virgilio "Billy" Magdale.

Sammy Talaboc and Celso Garcia, who wounded up in the next two spots, went home with P1,000 and P700, respectively. They also received trophies.

Galendez earlier gained the twice-to-beat advantage in the step-the-ladder finals round having rolled a total of 1,695 pinfalls in the elimination phase while Baluran placed second by hitting 1,596 pinfalls. Talaboc garnered 1,586 while Garcia scored 1,580.

No. 3 Talaboc beat No. 4 Garcia to clash against No. 4 Baluran. The latter demolished Talaboc to arrange a titular showdown with Galendez.

Ramsey Tancontian, meanwhile, amassed 839 pinfalls to clinch the gold in the just-concluded weekly qualifying while Ron Martin who struck for 826 pinfalls settled for silver and Garcia (812) salvaged the bronze.

Mayor Al Langkuno placed fourth and Ray Snyder came fifth.

The Lanemasters tournament was set to resume Tuesday night while the weekly qualifying will roll back into action on Saturday night at B3. (MLSA)
