Eastern Visayas logs 30 Covid-19 cases, mostly LSIs

THE Department of Health (DOH)-Eastern Visayas reported on Wednesday, July 22, 2020, a total of 30 new cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19), who are mostly locally stranded individuals (LSIs).

A total of 644 out of 725 patients also recovered, bringing the total active Covid-19 cases in the region at 78.

The Eastern Visayas Regional Covid-19 Testing Center (EVRCTC) released a total of 229 laboratory results, of which 212 are negative and 17 are positive.

Also, the Divine Word Hospital Virology Laboratory (DWHVL) released a total of 78 laboratory results, of which 62 are negative and 16 are positive for Covid-19.

Included in the 16 positive results are 13 new cases and three re-swab results of patients EV-589 and 611 from Albuera, Leyte and EV-610 from Capoocan, Leyte.

The new cases of Covid-19 are from Palompon, Leyte (1), LSI; Matag-ob, Leyte (1), LSI; Mayorga, Leyte (2), both LSIs; Jaro, Leyte (2), both LSIs; Leyte, Leyte (6), all LSIs; Capoocan, Leyte (4), all LSIs; Tolosa, Leyte (1), health worker from Divine Word Hospital; Tacloban City (1); Sogod, Southern Leyte (1), overseas Filipino worker.

San Jorge, Samar (1), LSI; Calbayog City, Samar (3), all LSIs; Gandara, Samar (1), LSI; Villareal, Samar (2), both LSIs; Gamay, Northern Samar (1), LSI; Lope De Vega, Northern Samar (1), LSI; and Capul, Northern Samar (2), both LSIs.

Meanwhile, Eastern Visayas is preparing for the coming home of its “Kababayans” through the national government’s “Hatid-Tulong" program this week.

“Thus, the DOH in Region 8 urged the local government units to strictly enforce protocols and to prepare for the coming home of Kababayans. One of the preparations that are being done is the availability of 15,068 beds in the Community Isolation Units and Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facilities in the region,” said the Philippine Information Agency (PIA)-Eastern Visayas in a report.

“A total of 52 Level 1 to Level 3 hospitals have already submitted their surge capacity plans. Additional training events were also conducted to the 707 teams of contact tracers in the region,” it added.
