Eastern Visayas Covid-19 cases surge anew

THE Department of Health (DOH)-Eastern Visayas reported 32 new cases of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), bringing the total number of cases in the region to 757, as of Thursday, July 23, 2020.

On Wednesday, the region also recorded 30 new Covid-19 patients who are mostly locally stranded individuals (LSIs).

The Eastern Visayas Regional Covid-19 Testing Center (EVRCTC) released a total of 201 laboratory results, of which 187 are negative and 15 are positive for the virus.

In Samar, the cases are from Catbalogan City (1); Paranas (3); Tarangnan (2); and Motiong (1).

In Southern Leyte, Covid-19 cases are from Pintuyan (2); Maasin City (4); and St. Bernard (2).

Meanwhile, the Divine Word Hospital Virology Laboratory (DWHVL) released a total of 203 laboratory results, of which 178 are negative and 25 positive for Covid-19.

The positive results include 17 new cases and eight re-swab results of Patients EV-365 from Tolosa, EV-668 from Mahaplag, EV-200 from Tanauan, EV-669 from Carigara, EV-449, 646, 451 and 576 from Palo, all in Leyte.

In Leyte, the new cases are in Tacloban City (1); Kananga (2); Leyte (4); Baybay City (1); Mahaplag (2); Dulag (1); Merida (5); and Isabel (1).

According to the DOH-Eastern Visayas, a total of 644 cases, or 85.07 percent, have recovered in the region, bringing the total active cases to 110.

The region is set to welcome 776 LSIs next week following the resumption of the national government’s “Hatid Tulong” program from July 25 to 26, 2020.
