ANOTHER successful Rotary year ends, and another year of commitment unfolds, formally starting this July 1st. Indeed, another challenging year for all Rotarians. The Rotary International under President Holger Knaack asks Rotarians worldwide to create opportunities that will strengthen their leadership, help put service ideas into action and improve the lives of those in need, hence the theme for this year, "Rotary Opens Opportunities."

This year's kickoff activity starts with one of the areas of focus, the support for the environment. RI District 3790, its component clubs and members simultaneously planted vegetables and fruits in their respective backyard for environmental sustainability.

Also, in a call to the fight against Covid-19, the RC of Baguio Summer Capital members and its Rotaract Club (RAC SLU-SAMCIS) recently donated PPEs, surgical masks, alcohol, food and beverage to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center's frontliners through the kindness of various sponsors.

It is also with great pride that the RC of Baguio Summer Capital hosted the very first official district function of RI District 3790 for Rotary Year 2020-2021 last July 19 to 20. This was chaired by PP Anton Baltazar and Technical Director Delfin Tokiyas. The District Training Assembly (Distas) 2020 was the first and largest virtual district function with more than 1,500 participants from the district and speakers from other districts as well as RI officers from RI South Pacific and Philippine office in Parramatta, Australia and RI main office in Evanston, IL., USA. The registration fees raised are to be used on various COVID19 projects. The guest of honor was Congressman and PDG Mark Go.

I am more than happy and honored to serve my community as the current President of the RC of Baguio Summer Capital that was chartered in April 7, 1999 and which boasts as the first 100 percent Paul Harris Club and first and only 100 percent Multiple Paul Harris Club in the district. Along with this year's Board of Directors namely Club Secretary Jumel Salva, Wendell Aplaten, Jun Bambalan, Peter Cating, Steve Cating, Nathaniel Gam-ad, Federico Quiambao, Patrick Rillorta, Marcelino Samonte, Delfin Tokiyas, Jose Tombali and Roland Wong; and with the guidance of my mentors headed by Charter President Gil Bautista, PDG Rolando "Oyan" Villanueva, the RC of Baguio Summer Capital roster of Past Presidents, and my Transformer Governor Jess Sama, the spirit of the RC of Baguio Summer Capital of brotherhood, community service and fellowship shall surely move on. To serve with joy and simplicity. God is good.

Our warmest birthday greetings to RC of Baguio Summer Capital Ann's Sandra Pasion, Mency Villanueva and Andrea Atiwag; bro's Jose Tombali, Chinky Cid and Frederico Quiambao. RCBSC file photos. Tolitz Villanueva (tolitz69glock@yahoo.com).
