GAB lauds PFF, PBA for Covid-19 prevention plans

THE Games and Amusements Board (GAB) lauded the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) and Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) for well-studied Covid-19 prevention strategies.

GAB Chairman Abraham Kahlil "Baham" Mitra in a message Friday, July 24, 2020, said that PFL Secretary-General Lawyer Edwin Gastanes, PFL Commissioner Coco Torre, and PBA Deputy Commissioner and Operations Manager Eric Castro on Wednesday attended the "Kamustahan sa GAB." This is GAB's weekly program which aims to address the concerns of Pinoy professional athletes and other pro sports stakeholders, to present their training guidelines.

Du ng the program, PFL Commissioner Torre presented the "PFL 11 Core Strategies" that will be observed by the league once the athletes' physical conditioning activities resume. These guidelines were endorsed by the GAB to the IATF last month.

Torre, in the program, further lamented that the PFL will adopt a contactless registration process and online health-monitoring system for their players, coaches, and support staff by using exclusive Quick Response codes.

Gastanes, meanwhile, promised Mitra and Commissioners Eduard Trinidad and Mar Masanguid that the GAB regulating officials will be given access to the livestreaming videos of physical conditioning activities of the PFL in Carmona, Cavite.

On the other hand, PBA Deputy Commissioner Castro agreed to follow the GAB Medical Guidelines and the Department of Health (DOH) minimum health and safety protocols, particularly the appointment of health and safety officers and mandatory Covid-19 testing for PBA players and essential personnel.

Meanwhile, in a meeting of Mitra and GAB division heads with the DOH, Rodley Desmond Bautista, head of the DOH Policy and Technology Section, announced that the Joint Administrative Order for the conduct of professional and non-professional sports physical conditioning activities may be released next week after the approval of DOH Legal Department is obtained.
