8 nabbed, P845,000 shabu seized in anti-drug operations

EIGHT people, including a high-value target (HVT) and a militiaman, were arrested while P845,200 worth of illegal drugs seized in separate anti-drug operations in Zamboanga Peninsula, the police reported Sunday, July 26, 2020.

Police Brigadier General Jesus Cambay, Jr., Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula director, identified the arrested suspects as the following: Sharler Sauragal, 32; Elina Asibun, 34; Jayshar Tanadjalul; Sakul Ahiyal, 35; Eronico Amias, 47; Wilson Francisco, 27; Wilfredo Espelita, 19; and, Nasrin Kahal, 19.

Cambay said that Sauragal, an HVT, and Asibun were arrested in possession of some P800,000 worth of suspected shabu and buy-bust money in a buy-bust operation around 6:15 p.m. Saturday in Tapul Drive, Mampang village, Zamboanga City.

Cambay said the Tanadjalul, a militiaman, was arrested by joint police and military forces around 2:30 p.m. Saturday in a checkpoint in Cabunbata village, Isabela City, Basilan.

Tanadjalul was arrested following receipt of information that he will transport illegal drugs by motorcycle from Isabella City to the town of Lantwan, Basilan. Seized from him were some P20,000 worth of suspected shabu and illegal drug paraphernalia.

Cambay said recovered from the possession of Ahiyal, a newly identified drug personality, were some P3,000 worth of suspected shabu and marked money when arrested around 5:10 p.m. Saturday at Calle Punta in Camino Nuevo village, Zamboanga City.

Cambay said seized from Amias, a newly identified drug personality, were some P2,000 worth of shabu and marked money when arrested in a buy-bust operation around 9 p.m. Saturday in Santa Barbara village, Zamboanga City.

He said that Francisco, an ex-convict, was found in possession of some P1,700 worth of suspected shabu and marked money when arrested around 9:50 p.m. Saturday in Recodo village, Zamboanga City.

He said that Francisco has served a jail sentence for violation of the Republic Act 9165, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

The police official said that Espelita was arrested around 11:10 p.m. Saturday in Lower Irasan village, Roxas, Zamboanga Del Norte.

Recovered from him were some P2,500 worth of suspected shabu and P500 marked money.

Cambay said recovered from Kahal were some P16,000 worth of suspected shabu and marked money in a buy-bust operation around 1:10 a.m. Sunday Poblacion village, Margosatubig, Zamboanga del Sur.

The suspects were detained while appropriate charges are set to be filed against them.

Cambay said that the Police regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula will remain consistent in its intensified anti-illegal drugs campaign despite the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.

“As we considered that drug addiction is a physical, mental and social illness, this perennial concern shall not be left to the detriment of our society and destroy the future of our youth,” Cambay added. (SunStar Zamboanga)
