GIDUSO ni Philippine Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation (Pekaf) Chairman and President Juan Miguel Zubiri ang paglakip sa arnis sa 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games nga gitakda sa Vietnam sa Nobiyembre 21 ngadto sa Disyembre 2 sa sunod tuig.
Ang arnis nga usa ka tradisyonal nga Filipino martial art dako og natampo sa overall championship sa Team PH niadtong 30th SEA Games sa miaging tuig kay mihatag kini og 22 ka medalya—14 golds, six silvers ug two bronzes.
Si Zubiri, kinsa usa usab ka senador, naglaom nga makumbinser sa Philipine Olympic Committee (POC) and Vietnam SEA Games organizers sa pag-apil sa arnis.
Siya mismo nisuwat pud sa head of sports sa Vietnam kabahin niini.
“I wrote the head of sports in Vietnam, appealing the inclusion of arnis and without further explanation, reminding them that they are a powerhouse and could also be an overall champion in arnis,” matod ni Zubiri.
Kahinumdoman nga ang Vietnam mipakita pud og labok sa arnis sa niaging SEA Games sa Angeles University Foundation, Pampanga, diin midaog sila og upat ka gold medals, 10 ka silvers ug unom ka bronze medals.
Matod ni Zubiri, nga usa sa mga rason ngano wala giapil sa Vietnam ang arnis, kay gitangtang pud sa Pilipinas ang Vovinam sa Manila SEA Games. Ang Vovinam usa ka Vietnamese martial arts.
“Nag-umpisa ‘yan kasi hindi natin naisama ‘yung vovinam ‘yung kanilang martial arts nung last SEA Games. Siguro nagtampo sila. Gusto ng Phisgoc na demo sports sila pero hindi pumayag ang Vietnam,” dugang ni Zubiri.
Si Zubiri nagkanayon nga kinahanglan gyud og “man-to-man lobbying” aron maapil ang arnis sa 2021 SEA Games.
Gusto ni Zubiri maapil gyud ang arnis tungod mausik lamang ang ilang grassroots development nga programa, chapter organization ug regional championships sa milabay nga mga tuig.
“I’m still hopeful (that it will be included),” matod ni Zubiri.
Sa miaging 30th SEA Games adunay 56 sports ug 530 total events apan gipaubos kini sa 31st SEA Games host ngadto sa 36 sports ug 450 events.
Matod ni POC President Abraham Tolentino, nga i-anunsyo sa Vietnam ang ilang gidugang nga upat ka competitions.
Sa iniyal nga listahan, wala giapil sa Vietnam ang arnis, baseball, duathlon, esports, jiujitsu, obstacle course, pentathlon, rugby, sailing, sambo, skateboarding, softball, soft tennis, squash, surfing, triathlon, wakeboarding and windsurfing. (RSC)
