AIBA Women’s Boxing World 2019 champion Nesthy Alcayde Petecio is set to arrive Monday, July 27, 2020, and will also submit herself to another swab test upon arrival at Francisco Bangoy International Airport, commonly known as Davao International Airport.

It is going to be her second swab test this month after she and the rest of the national boxing team, who were stranded at the Philsports Complex in Pasig City due to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic, were also swab tested on July 2. All of their swab tests yielded negative results. The team arrived at PhilSports Complex from their training camp in Baguio City on July 1.

Petecio, who also won a gold medal in the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games 2019, posted on her Facebook Sunday her Philippine Airlines (PAL) e-ticket for Manila-Davao flight, courtesy of the Philippine Sports Commission, saying that she’s thankful for those who helped her and her brother Norlan go home to be with their family in Barangay Tuban, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur.

Although she admits that undergoing a swab test is really painful, she told SunStar Davao Sunday through a Messenger chat interview, “Okay ra para makauli lang jud mi (It’s okay as long as we can go home)”. She also joked, “Bisan pa gani magsparring didto okay kaayo makauli lang (Even if I have to spar there just so I can go home).”

She earlier expressed the uncertainty of flying back home due to Davao City government’s recent safety healthy protocol mandating all Davao-bound commercial flight passengers to submit a negative swab test result taken within 48 hours before departure.

Yet, Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio bared the updated recent guideline, saying that those who could not take swab tests before departure may have their swab tests for free at DIA. But arriving passengers, however, will have to wait for the results before they could leave the airport depending on its outcome.

From DIA, the Petecio siblings will either be fetched by their local government unit (LGU) or by a friend.

Meanwhile, she looks forward to eating her favorite pork adobo and macaroni salad cooked by her mother Prescilla when she gets home. Norlan, however, loves their mother’s spaghetti.

She added they are “ready” and excited to go home after packing their luggage and making sure they have masks, handy alcohol spray and face shield ready as well. She also prepared food and snacks in case they will have to wait longer at DIA.
