Government nurses to receive salary increase

NURSES will soon receive an adjustment in salaries based on a Supreme Court decision.

In his weekly radio program over dzEQ Radyo Pilipinas Baguio, Representative Marquez Go, a member of the Committee on Civil Service and Professional Regulation, said the increase took effect January 2020 where government nurses receive an estimated P10,000 additional salary.

"During our meeting with the committee, we talked with one of the undersecretaries of Department of Budget and Management (DBM) and we asked if the budget for the nurse's salary increase is ready for release," Go said.

The lawmaker added that DBM will release a memorandum circular for the implementation of salary increase for nurses.

On June 9, the Supreme Court declared as final and executory its October 8, 2019 ruling affirming the validity of a provision in the Philippine Nursing Act of 2002, and directing the 47 percent (or P9,777) increase in the entry-level pay of government nurses.

On July 17, the DBM released budget circular 2020-4, indicating the present salary grade 11 to be upgraded to salary grade 15 with an equivalent salary amounting to P32,053 per month.

"An adjustment in the salary will take effect based on salary grade 15 and a back pay from January to June will be done amounting to an additional P10,000 per month starting January 1,2020," Go stated.

Go is optimistic that by August or September, all salaries of nurses will be based on the new grade level.
