Love is a seven-letter word: Lasagna

WHAT’S better than carbs? Carbs layered with cheese, sauce and meat! There is nothing quite like the comforting power of a hot pan of gooey lasagna shared with the family at home (or for yourself, that’s fine too). In celebration of Lasagna Day tomorrow, we round up five drool-worthy lasagnas in Cebu and the talented home cooks behind them tell us what makes their version worth trying (and ordering again).

Tritzie’s Cheesiest Lasagna | @cheesiestlasagna

As you can already tell by the name, Tritzie’s Cheesiest Lasagna is just that—cheesy! Unlike other lasagnas, this one has less meat and more cheese. The secret to this indulgent dish could not be any more obvious: Cheese, cheese and more cheese! Like every smart cook and entrepreneur, Tritzie Cokaliong prefers to keep the specifics of her recipe hush-hush. “As for our ingredients and processes, I’m afraid it’s a trade ‘cheese-cret!’ Youre just going to have to order to find out what the hype is all about,” she quipped. If you love baked mac, the Cheesiest Macaroni is also just as good.

The Lasagne Que | @thelasagneque

Like precious heirloom, food and the fond memories that come with it can be passed from one generation to the next, such as the story of The Lasagne Que. Her mom’s homemade lasagna was an integral part of Shing Pacaña’s youth. In 2013, she, together with her partner Mike, decided to share her mom’s lasagna with the rest of Cebu and turn it into a full-blown business. “The Lasagne Que has been serving scrumptious lasagna to a great deal of fulfilled clients since we started. Our customers’ testimonies should say it all,” said Mike Arnaiz.

Cebulasagna | @cebulasagna

You know something is good when it’s loved by both kids and the kids at heart. From the creamy bechamel to the generous portions of meat coating every layer, Cebulasagna’s take on the Italian classic promises to be a treat that all ages can enjoy. “What makes Cebulasagna different is the fact that we don’t skimp on the ingredients we put in each tray, which is prepared and baked with love. Our goal is to serve the best quality food to all Cebuanos one tray at a time,” said Cebulasagna’s Rachelle Chiu.

SugBro | @sugbobrothers

For SugBro, balance is key. The guys behind the recently opened business make sure every core component in the lasagna is well-balanced to achieve a distinct and defined flavor, from the portions of the different sauces to the blend of cheeses. SugBro also cooks the pasta just under al dente, so it’s not overcooked. The lasagna comes in four variants: Pork, Beef, Chicken and Vegetable. Customers will be in for a cheeky surprise: Each order of lasagna comes with a personalized note and a photo of Ginoong Pilipinas - Misters of World 2019 and SugBro co-owner Lorenzo Isip.

Premium Lasagna by Jane | @premiumlasagnabyjane

Jane Lim always noticed how some Filipinos like to eat pasta, like spaghetti, with rice. That’s when she had a lightbulb moment and created the Lasagna Rice, a fusion of the signature sauces from her bestselling Baked Lasagna and flavorful, aromatic yellow rice instead of the lasagna sheets—a concept similar to a rice gratin. “This unique combination will delight your palate with new layers of flavor and goodness. On top of that, we load it with generous amounts of premium ingredients which will surely be appreciated by food lovers,” said Jane. It may seem like an odd pairing at first but once you’ve tried it yourself, it will make total sense.
