A BOND between sisters is special and inimitable. On one hand, it can be erratic. One day you’re sharing laughs like BFFs, and then tomorrow, you’re at each other’s throats. On the other hand, it’s also unconditional. You can always count on your sister to have your back, in the best times and otherwise.
In celebration of National Sisters Day, five of our readers share on their relationships with their sisters and the memorable moments they’ve shared together:

“Our trip to Taiwan was awesome. It was our parents’ birthday gift for our youngest, Alykka, and it was our first sisters-only trip out of the country. It was also the last trip before Nikka would tie the knot and move to Australia. We went on traditional touristy stuff, as well as spontaneous detours, which led to happy accidents. Half of us went crazy over milk tea, while the other half couldn’t care less. But when it came to sitting down in a restaurant to enjoy good food, we were all on board. Everything we went through revealed how different and alike we are at the same time. We would butt heads and be okay right after. Conflicts are expected when you put together a group of women who have strong convictions, but I think we’ve mastered the art of ebbing and flowing with each other. If anything, we came out of that trip knowing ourselves and each other a little bit more.”

“My sister and I have always been close but it almost felt like we were growing apart as adults. That is, until I got pregnant and gave birth—since then, we’ve never been closer. I wouldn’t have survived postpartum without her. She listened to my redundant labor stories, took care of the baby while I pumped, changed nappies, among others. They say it takes a village to raise a child, but I’m glad my sister, Denisa, is already a village herself.”

“The most memorable moments I have with my sisters are our trips together. One summer, we went to Bantayan Island. We wanted to go to the beach so bad and it was our first time there. We had an awesome time together—just us sisters. In 2018, we flew to Singapore together for “Halloween Horror Nights” at Universal Studios. It was definitely one of those trips I will never forget! We got to ride roller coasters and scream at the fake ghosts’ faces! I’ve been to Singapore quite a few times already but it’s usually with my boyfriend. This trip with my sisters just felt different and I enjoyed it a lot.”

“My sister and I are pretty close—way more than we like to admit! We have this dynamic of bonding over shows to watch, food to eat, and heart-to-heart talks that end in roasting each other. I keep an eye on her, too! You’d think that’s sweet but I really just make sure she doesn’t try to ‘borrow’ any of my things without asking.”

“When I was in college, my sister and I used to live in an apartment. This experience taught us how to live independently. There were times when we couldn’t have a proper meal because we had already spent most of our money on night outs. It reached a point where she would cry in front of me, knowing I was hungry but had nothing to eat. It was at that moment when I realized how wonderful her heart is and how she truly cares about me. Even until now, no matter what life throws her way, she always makes sure to provide for the whole family.”
