34-hectare land distributed to Cadiz farmers

OVER 34 hectares of land were distributed to 55 agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) in a series of certificate of land ownership award (Cloa) distribution and installation activities held in Cadiz City earlier this month.

With Negros Occidental still under the modified general community quarantine (MGCQ), the activity complied with minimum health protocols set by the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) and the Department of Health (DOH).

Municipal Agrarian Reform Program Officer Hannah Zayda Carinal, who led the ceremony, told farmer-beneficiaries to make their land productive.

"Let this inspire you to do better and prosper in life. Also, remember to pay the taxes and amortizations on time, as these will be now your duties and responsibilities," she added.

The distributed land involved the landholdings formerly owned by the Rural Bank of Sagay locates at Sitio Bernarte in Barangay Andres Bonifacio, and property previously maintained by La'o Consing at Hacienda Lope in Barangay Andres Bonifacio.

DAR-Negros Occidental I, in a statement, said the ceremonies were conducted through the process of land acquisition and distribution under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program Extension with Reforms.

Under the program, public and private agricultural landholdings are acquired by the government to be distributed to tenants, farmers, farmworkers and other tillers who are qualified to become ARBs.

This is anchored to the agency's aim to provide lands to landless farmers and farmworkers, guarantee the farmers of land security, deliver social equity and provide them with the necessary productive resources needed to ensure their economic viability and productivity.

"Such continuous field activities conducted by the DAR are evidence that despite the inconveniences brought by the pandemic, the service for the Filipino people lives on," it added.
