Drug group members killed, 4 nabbed

A MEMBER of a local drug group was killed while four others were arrested in separate law enforcement operations, a top police official announced Saturday, August 1, 2020.

Police Brigadier General Jesus Cambay, Jr., Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula director, identified the fatality as Mayong Ilang Kamlaon, a member of the Karanain Drug Group and a resident of Talon-Talon village, Zamboanga City.

Cambay said that Kamlaon was killed in a shootout during a law enforcement operation by way of service of a warrant of arrest around 11 p.m. Friday in Bulua village, Cagayan de Oro City.

Cambay said the shootout ensued as Kamlaon resisted the warrant servers consisting of joint operatives of the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO), Regional Intelligence Division and PRO-Northern Mindanao.

Cambay said that Kamlaon is listed as the Top-3 Regional Priority Target on illegal drugs of the PRO-Zamboanga Peninsula and Top 1 in the list of the ZCPO.

He said Kamlaon has a standing warrant of arrest for violation of Section 5, Article II of Republic Act 9165 issued by the court of this city.

He said recovered from the possession of Kamlaon one hand grenade, one caliber .45 pistol with magazine loaded with live ammunition and one sling bag with magazine.

The other four arrested drug personalities were identified as follows: Richard Pon, 34; Mildaya Perez, 42; Renado Cinco, 42; and Sambas Abdulfatta, 40.

Cambay said that recovered from the possession of Pon were some P3,500 worth of suspected shabu and P200 marked money in a buy-bust operation around 10:45 a.m. Friday in Purok 3, Cabaluay village, this city.

Cambay said that Perez was arrested in possession of some P1,700 worth of suspected shabu and P200 marked money in a buy-bust operation around 4:30 p.m. Friday in Zone 3A, Cawit village, this city.

Cambay said that seized from Cinco were some P34,000 worth of suspected shabu and P500 marked money when arrested in a buy-bust operation around 6 p.m. Friday in Purok 3, Lunzuran village, this city.

He said that Abdulfatta was arrested in a buy-bust operation around 8 p.m. Friday at a Bunk House in Taluksangay village, this city.

He said confiscated from the possession of Abdulfattas were some P5,000 worth of suspected shabu and P200 marked money.

He said the suspects were detained while charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against them. (SunStar Zamboanga)
