Abelardo falls further, loses to Brazil

MARK Abelardo suffered another defeat in the ONE Championship cage after a second round rear-naked choke submission loss to Brazilian Fabricio Andrade on Friday, July 31, 2020 in Bangkok, Thailand.

The 28-year-old Abelardo was aggreassive from the onset always pushing for the action. Andrade, however, was quick to his feet and used his long reach to keep Abelardo at bay.

In the second round, Abelardo attempted a take down but Andrade countered, took his back and sank a deep rear-naked choke that put the Fil-Kiwi to sleep in the 1:11 mark.

Abelardo suffered his second straight loss and dropped to 19-8, while Andrade had a successful ONE Championship debut and improved to 4-2.

In the main event, Rodtang Jitmuangnon (262-42-10) successfully defended his ONE Championship Muay Thai flyweight belt with a split decision over Petchdam Petchyindee Academy (95-15-7).

ONE Championship Muay Thai featherweight king Petchmorakot Petchyindee Academy (161-35-2) beat Yodsanklai Iwe Fairtex (202-74-4) by unanimous decision in the co-main event. (EKA)
