Bacolod logs 89 new Covid cases; total count rises to 268

THE Department of Health (DOH)-Western Visayas has reported 89 new coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases in Bacolod City from August 1 and 2, bringing the total number to 268.

In its bulletin released on Saturday, Bacolod City has a total of 74 new cases and another 15 new cases confirmed on Sunday. New cases include a three-month old and one-month old babies, the youngest Covid-19 positive patients in Bacolod.

Of 268 Covid-19 cases, 197 are active cases, 64 have recovered and seven deaths.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia said yesterday the 74 new cases on Saturday was the highest number of results released on a single day.

He said most of the Covid-19 patients were overseas Filipino workers (OFW) and locally stranded individuals (LSIs). All of them were quarantined in the city’s quarantine facilities.

Dr. Grace Tan, spokesperson of Bacolod City Inter-Agency Task Force against Covid-19, said the one-month-old baby girl and her father underwent swab test on July 24 as well as the three-month old baby boy and his mother.

She said only the two babies were tested positive for Covid-19 while their parents were tested negative.

It has not been determined yet how the two babies were infected by the virus.

Meanwhile, Tan said about 20 to 25 barangays in Bacolod City, where the Covid-19 positive patients live, were already sealed off.

She said of 61 barangays, most of the rural barangays, except Barangay Cabug, have Covid-19 positive cases and some are in numbered barangays.

As of July 27, City Health Office (CHO) records showed some areas that were sealed-off include Barangay Estefania- Purok Villamar, Celine Homes, Greensville; Barangay 12- Purok Malipayon; Barangay 35- Alunan-Yulo Extension; Barangay Tangub- Villa Esperanza, Purok Seaside; Barangay Alijis; Barangay 27- Gonzaga Extension; Barangay Taculing-Puroks Kabukiran, Lerio, Goldland Vil., Masagana; Barangay Mansilingan- Plaza Allana Arceo Drive; Barangay Villamonte- CL Montelibano Drive; Barangay Vista Alegre- Villa Angela, Abada Escay; Barangay Banago-Puroks Mahimulaton, Bayanihan, Riverside; Barangay 26-Purok Masanag; and Barangay 29-Purok Paghidaet.

Moreover, Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran said about 195 swab samples in Bacolod City tested at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) turned negative.

“It’s a good development that all of them were tested negative for Covid-19,” he said.
