PCG searches for missing fisherman in Scarborough

THE Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Monday, August 3, 2020, said they have launched search and rescue operations for a fisherman who went missing in the Scarborough Shoal in the West Philippine Sea.

PCG spokesperson Armand Balilo identified the fisherman as Luz Piliin, 42, from Barangay Mangan Vaca in Subic, Zambales.

He said PCG’s BRP Malabrigo was deployed on Saturday to assist in the ongoing operation while they also put the PCG Islander on standby in case it needs augmentation.

Balilo said on July 26, Piliin, who was a part of the FB Renz Ronel, was tasked to survey a fishing spot in the said vicinity using a smaller boat.

However, Piliin failed to return to the bigger boat. The other fishermen said they failed to rescue Piliin because of big waves and strong winds. (Third Anne Peralta-Malonzo/SunStar Philippines)
