Pro-sports training resumption delayed

WITH Metro Manila, alongside provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal, placed anew under modified enhanced community quarantine from August 4 to 18, the resumption of professional sports training will be delayed for a couple of days.

This, after President Rodrigo Duterte approved the latest Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF's) recommendation.

"At this juncture, we will implement the provisions of the Games and Amusements Board-Philippine Sports Commission-Department of Health Joint Administrative Order (JAO); thus, when a particular area is under MECQ, only individual sports or physical activities shall be allowed (e.g. outdoor walk, jogging/running, biking, etc.)," said GAB Chairman Abraham Khalil Mitra.

"With regard to the resumption of PBA, Chooks-to-Go 3x3, and PFL's training, there will be a slight delay," Mitra said.

"But rest assured that the GAB will take advantage of this temporary halt to prepare our stakeholders in order to ensure the safe return of activities related to professional sports," he added.

It was recalled that after nearly five months of stoppage due to pandemic, professional sports in the country were given the green light to resume training provided that the provisions of the GAB-PSC-DOH JAO are met.

Among these are GAB-regulated sports such as professional basketball, football, boxing, MMA, and Muay Thai. (JSG)
