Victim's admirer 'person of interest' in Cadiz girl slay

CADIZ City police chief Lieutenant Colonel Robert Mansueto said the 14-year-old girl who was killed in Barangay Mabini, Cadiz City sustained a total of four stab wounds on her body.

Mansueto said they have invited a person for questioning, after it was revealed that he was an admirer of the victim.

He noted that the face mask recovered from the crime scene was similar to the one worn by the suspect.

Mansueto believes the victim was not raped, as the suspect feared that the victim's shouting may have attracted attention of the local residents living in the area, as well as those passing by the road near the crime scene.

The suspect was also seen in his motorcycle following the victim prior to the incident, and was also spotted later coming out of the sugarcane field.

The police chief added they are still waiting for witnesses to surface in order to ensure the case against the suspect is air tight.

The 14-year-old Grade 9 student was found dead on August 1 in the middle of a sugarcane plantation at Hacienda San Jose in the said barangay.

Police said the victim was headed to the house of his father in Purok Balod, also in the said barangay, when she was dragged to the sugarcane field.
