Getting ready for work in the ‘New Normal’

THERE is no doubt that the recent health crisis has taken its toll on the lives of many people. With the number of Covid-19 cases still on the rise, many are already on their knees.

The past few months, Covid-19 not only took the lives of some 1,800 people in our country, but also disrupted and eliminated countless sources of income for many Filipinos.

As the country continues to log in fresh cases every day, it is clear that we won’t be living “normally” anytime soon. This puts a lot of worry on the average working citizen, wherein the uncertainty is the only thing standing in the way of a steady source of living.

Back in March when the economy was thriving, there were a lot of job vacancies in different sectors. Tourism, sales, human resource and various service-oriented industries were just some of the sectors seeking to fill vacant positions. And now that a lot of these sectors have shut down, most of the economy has gone online.

Ebro Bullicer, founder of Be Located, Cebu’s first virtual tour guide platform, has thought of a way to ease the transition to the “new normal.” Ebro knew from the start that not everyone was qualified to apply for online jobs as not everyone had the skills. So, like his first venture Be Located— pioneering in Cebu—Ebro founded Get Started International.

Get Started International is a platform which aims to teach people skills that are essential for the different disciplines of the online industry. Ebro has invited coaches on various topics to share their expertise. With most people stuck at home adhering to quarantine protocol, Ebro expressed that people should use this time at home to be productive and even earn.

According to Ebro, most people already have smartphones and computers capable of accessing social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. These gadgets can be the only thing needed to kickstart an online career, but people really don’t know what to do with these resources, besides surfing the internet.

“Now is a good time to learn new, practical skills. Get Started International offers crash courses on various topics like social media marketing, SEO (search engine optimization) content writing, virtual assistance training and even web development through online seminars,” said Ebro.

Completing these seminars also grants participants access to an exclusive group where they’d get continued guidance from the coaches themselves.
