580-member Davraa delegation leaves April 5 for Palaro

THE 580-member Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) delegation will leave on April 5 and 6 via Philippine Airlines to compete in the 2010 Palarong Pambansa set on April 11 to 17 in Tarlac.

Department of Education (DepEd) Physical Education and School Sports (Pess) supervisor 1 Jimmy Cerrojales said there will be five batches boarding five different flights on April 5 and another five batches leaving on April 6.

"The first batch on both days will be the 7:15 a.m. flight while the last batch will be the 9:30 p.m. flight," Cerrojales told Sun.Star Davao in a phone interview Wednesday.

He said some 40 delegates will join each batch and that the short plane trip to Manila and some three to four hour land trip to Tarlac will be less stressful for the athletes, thus giving them more time to rest when they arrive at their quarters.

"It is to our athletes' advantage that we will arrive in Tarlac early so they can still familiarize with the venues and acclimatize with the weather," Cerrojales said.

Davao City elementary and secondary athletes comprise the bulk of the Davraa delegation that will compete in athletics, swimming, volleyball, basketball, tennis, badminton, chess, taekwondo, arnis, sepak takraw, boxing, baseball, softball, archery, football, table tennis, gymnastics and sipa.

The rest of the Davraa delegation comes from Davao del Sur, Panabo City, Island Garden City of Samal, Davao del Norte, Digos and Compostela Valley.
