7th Covid-19 death in Cagayan de Oro is a local case

A 75-YEAR-OLD female from a gated community in Barangay Lumbia, Cagayan de Oro City died while she was admitted at the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) Tuesday morning, August 4.

The 75-year-old woman is one of the six new confirmed coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases in the city after she tested positive for Sars-CoV-2.

Dr. Bernard Rocha, NMMC medical specialist, said the woman experienced fever for three days and has trouble urinating. She was also self-medicating.

Rocha added that a day prior to her admission, the woman's symptoms worsened and she experienced shortness of breathing. She was brought to a private hospital where she was intubated and was swabbed on August 2.

Her swab test result came out positive on Monday, August 3. The woman was transferred to the NMMC around 8 p.m. Monday and was admitted at the emergency room already in critical condition.

Rocha said her diagnosis was acute respiratory distress syndrome (severe) secondary to her Covid-19 infection, community-acquired pneumonia (high risk), and hypertensive cardiovascular disease.

She was the first patient that was given the Remdesivir drug, but she died at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 4.

According to City Health Office Epidemiologist Dr. Joselito Retuya, there were initial reports that the woman traveled to a municipality in Lanao del Sur and that she was visited by people from Lanao del Sur in July.

The reports are still being verified at present, Retuya said.

The woman was living together with her two grandchildren. Retuya said contact tracing is still ongoing.

The 75-year-old woman is the seventh Covid-19 death in Cagayan de Oro.
