Lami way atik: Cebu’s newest social media foodie group

WHAT’S your favorite expression when you taste, see, hear or experience something spectacular? “Way atik” is commonly used in Cebu when one wants to assure someone that he is being serious or is not joking.

Operations officer of Leuterio Realty, FilipinoHomes and Rent.Ph, May Antonette Leuterio wears her chef’s hat and apron seriously, especially during this pandemic. She decided to help start-up online food businesses while sparking her own flame—her love for food—by launching “Lami Way Atik” (LWA) on Instagram (@lamiwayatik), an online food hub and platform to promote local food businesses that have good food and quality service.

May’s cravings led her to create something helpful to the community.

“The present situation where travel bans have been implemented has inspired me initially to satisfy my cravings through trying some of the local foods that were slowly making noise on my feed,” she said.

After ordering from different local food businesses she saw online, May set up her table and superbly laid out everything she bought before trying all of them together with some of her friends. With her background as a Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management and a Culinary Arts graduate, May had a fun and insightful discussion with her friends about the food’s taste, quality and if it was worth the cost; ala the ‘food gods’ of “Crazy Delicious” on Netflix.

May took a video of herself eating, and instantly said, “Lami, way atik!” She posted the video on her social media account and her audience found her phrase catchy.

The foodie in her got giddy with her friends’ feedback about her video, and her creative juices got flowing. May mentioned her idea and impromptu plan to her classmates from her online innovation classes and got them thinking that what she had in mind had some potential.

May then started the planning process using the modules she had in school and eventually launched “Lami Way Atik,” fulfilling what was supposed to be a school project into a long-term application, which is also very helpful and relevant during this pandemic.

To live up to its name and goal, food brands that wish to be featured just have to pass standards of good food and quality service. Though this project is just new to the online world, it has already created a community of gastronomes who share their honest feedback and review about the food featured, their “lami way atik” moments, and those who want to go on a gastronomic adventure.
