Covid-19 cases in Eastern Visayas breach 1,000 mark

EASTERN Visayas on Tuesday, August 4, recorded 38 new cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19), bringing the region's total number of confirmed cases to 1,035.

The Eastern Visayas Regional Covid-19 Testing Center (EVRCTC) released a total of 289 laboratory results Tuesday, August 4, of which 253 are negative and 36 are positive for the disease.

The 36 new cases are tagged as patients EV-998 to EV-1033.

In Samar, the cases are in Basey (1); Gandara (1), a locally stranded individual (LSI); Pinabacdao (2); Catbalogan City (2), with LSI; Motiong (2); and San Jose de Buan (1), LSI.

In Southern Leyte, confirmed cases are reported in Liloan (1); Padre Burgos (1), LSI; Tomas Oppus (1), LSI; Maasin City (3); Macrohon (5), all LSIs; Anahawan (1), an overseas Filipino worker; and San Ricardo (1), LSI.

In Leyte, the new Covid-19 cases are in Kananga (3), all LSIs; Tabango (2); Albuera (2), both LSIs; Barugo (4), all LSIs; and Jaro (3), all LSIs.

Meanwhile, the Divine Word Hospital Virology Laboratory (DWHVL) released a total of 235 laboratory results, of which 227 are negative and eight are positive for coronavirus.

The positive results include two new cases and six re-swab results of patients EV-679 and 676 from Kananga, EV-664 from Baybay, EV-911 from Tanauan, EV-719 and 610 from Capoocan, all in Leyte.

The two new cases are tagged as patients EV-1034 and EV-1035, according to the Department of Health (DOH)-Eastern Visayas.

The new cases are in Capoocan, Leyte (1), LSI; and Carigara, Leyte (1), LSI.

As of 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 4, the total number of Covid-19 recoveries in the region is at 704 or 68.01 percent, bringing the total active cases to 328. (SunStar Philippines)
