Quijano: 'Tinatanggap ko'

It’s funny how social media works. With just those two cryptic words tweeted out in a language totally foreign to him, Conor McGregor, has gotten the mixed martial arts world abuzz.

Of course, they could only speculate. First was the proposition that it was directed at Khamzat Chimaev who has publicly been seeking fights against McGregor, Nate Diaz or Jorge Masvidal.

But obviously, the tweet being in Filipino, majority felt it could have been directed at none other than our own Manny Pacquiao.

BOXING. However, it seems like UFC President Dana White is not too keen on another boxing match and Pacquiao’s camp has clarified that no offers have been made and no negotiations ever took place.

So clearly this is just Conor being himself. He is likely to tweet out some hilarious comment every now and then to get everyone’s attention like, for example, his so-called “retirement” last June.

If you believed that, then you are probably one of those dolts who also believed he could beat Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Make no mistake, guys, Conor cannot beat Pacquiao in a boxing ring. As good as Conor is in mixed-martial arts, his boxing skills are not at par with those of world-caliber fighters.

Boxing is a specific fighting discipline that requires years of focus and mastery. It requires a different stance, a different approach and mindset.

If you remember the Floyd fight, the latter toyed with him not unlike what a lion does before he eats his prey.

Conor trained very hard for that fight, sparred with former boxing champions, hired a boxing coach and yet come fight night—his tank ran empty as early as the middle rounds. That’s what inexperience does. No matter if he was the younger, bigger, stronger fighter.

It will be no different if he fights Manny who is even smaller than Floyd. In fact, the outcome might be worse for Connor because Manny doesn’t mind getting hit.

Manny’s speed will befuddle him. Conor will again get tired and when he does, Manny will knock him out. Violently and spectacularly.

The other day, I saw a picture of a bigger, bulkier Conor enjoying his birthday with his family in France, eating, drinking and driving his Lamborghini.

Those added pounds will come back to haunt him if ever he decides to get into the ring with Pacquiao anytime soon.

Be careful what you wish for, Conor. You just might get it.

LAST ROUND. It’s on one of our dear friends, Sue Villanueva, who recently celebrated her birthday. Cheers!
