Eastern Visayas Covid-19 cases rise anew

EASTERN Visayas continues to see a surge of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases, following the additional 48 new cases on Wednesday evening, August 5, bringing the total number of Covid-19 cases in the region to 1,084.

The Eastern Visayas Regional Covid-19 Testing Center (EVRCTC) released a total of 227 laboratory results, of which 245 are negative and 32 are positive for the virus, comprising 31 new cases and one re-swab results of EV-779 from Tanauan, Leyte.

The Divine Word Hospital Virology Laboratory (DWHVL) also released a total of 183 laboratory results, of which 165 are negative and 18 positive for Covid-19. Included in the positive results are 17 new cases and one re-swab result of patient EV-863 from Albuera, Leyte.

In Palo, Leyte, Mayor Ann Petilla disallowed any form of socio-civic and cultural activities that tend to attract a large number of people and participants in time for their annual fiesta celebration on August 6.

However, Petilla allowed families and residents within Palo town proper to privately celebrate the town fiesta in their respective residences.

As of Wednesday, Palo has 35 confirmed cases with 19 recoveries and 16 active cases of Covid-19.

In Maasin City, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC)-Southern Leyte Chapter and the City Government welcomed another batch of 30 returning locally stranded individuals (LSIs) to its Red Cross 143 Skills Camp at Danao Forest Park.

“This initiative is in partnership with the City Government of Maasin headed by our very dynamic Mayor Nacional Mercado in support to the health care system and authorities for Covid-19 response,” said Jonas Maco, chapter president of PRC in the province.

Maco also thanked Mercado for the renovation of the quarters and restrooms and the installation of free Wi-Fi connections in the quarantine facility.

As of 7 p.m. Wednesday, the Department of Health- Eastern Visayas recorded 743 recoveries, bringing the total active cases to 338. (SunStar Philippines)
