No change in April 4-25 Aguirre chess fest dates

THERE will be no change or postponement of the tournament dates for the 2nd Antonio Ivan S. Aguirre 2010 Negros Open Individual Chess Championship slated on April 4-25.

It will be at the Lobby of the New Top’s Millennium Plaza Bowling Lanes, Corner 10th-Hilado Sts., Capitol Shopping Center.

The chess fest is sponsored by US-based chess patron Antonio Ivan S. Aguirre and organized and officiated by the Game Royale Aficionados of Negros, Inc. in cooperation with Top’s Millennium Plaza Bowling Lanes, Inc.

The event, which is expected to draw the participation of leading GMs, IMs, FMs and NMs from all over the country, is a seven-round Swiss system (1 hour 20 moves + 1 hour to finish the game) competition.

Participants must know how to record chess games either through the Descriptive English Notation (PK4 – PQB4) or Algebraic Notation (e-4 – c5) and must bring their own tournament size chess sets and clocks.

The tournament is a project of overseas-based Bacoleño chess patron Antonio Ivan S. Aguirre, CPA, CFE, CSI, MBA, a book author and martial arts instructor who also works with a foreign government.

A P200 registration fee will be collected from each participant the deadline of which is on Friday, 6:00 p.m., April 2, at the tournament venue.

Prizes awaiting the finishers are: P5,000 plus 42-inch, four-legged “King” trophy courtesy of Mr. Antonio Ivan S. Aguirre for the Champion; P4,000 plus 36-inch, four-legged “Queen” trophy courtesy of Mr. Mr. Leo N. Aguirre for the 1st Runner-up; P3,000 plus 30-inch “Rook” trophy courtesy of Engr. Hugo D. Villanueva for the 2nd Runner-up; P2,000 plus 27-inch four-legged “Bishop" trophy courtesy of Engr. Jeremy Kirk Chavez for the 3rd Runner-up; and P1,000 plus 24-inch, four-legged “Knight" trophy courtesy of Mr. Kemal Keraseki for the 4th Runner-up; while the 6th to 20th finishers will receive chess sets with bags and mats courtesy of Mr. Demostheses Glen Avertia, Mr. Allan Pamplona, and Mr. Don Niño Santino.
