Celebration leads to arrests

A TOTAL of 52 members of a social organization, including two police officers, were apprehended in a private lot in Sitio Pitogo, Barangay Tubod, Minglanilla, Cebu Saturday night, Aug. 8, 2020.

Their violation? They did not observe social distancing.

The violators were celebrating the 47th founding of the group when a joint team of the Minglanilla Police Station and Regional Intelligence Division 7 operatives found them.

Minglanilla Police Station Chief William Homoc said they went to the area after receiving a complaint about the noise coming from the gathering.

Minglanilla is on general community quarantine (GCQ) from Aug. 1 to Aug. 15. Even though movement of people in GCQ areas is less restricted, wearing of masks and social distancing are still mandatory to prevent the spread of the highly infectious coronavirus disease 2019.

One of the members told Superbalita Cebu that they were about to end their program when police arrived and brought them to the police station. (BBT / KAL)
