AFTER almost five months of temporary closure, local food market Sugbo Mercado will resume its operations starting Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2020.

“We’re now in general community quarantine and all the tenants want to generate revenue for themselves and most especially their staff. And not only that, outdoor dining is considered safer than indoor since it’s open air. We have also strict protocols in place to ensure the safety of both customers and tenants,” Sugbo Mercado co-founder and president JP Chiongbian told SunStar Cebu.

Pick-up, takeout and delivery via Foodpanda and LEB are highly encouraged for this week.

Dine-in services will start on Aug. 19 at 50 percent capacity. Customers will be given controlled numbers.

Sugbo Mercado will initally open its branch in Garden Bloc in IT Park and Streetfood by Sugbo Mercado in Ayala Center Cebu in Cebu Business Park.

Both will operate on a new schedule from Wednesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Aug. 12.

Safety protocols will include registered entry for contact tracing, temperature screening, sanitation and “No Mask, No Entry” policy.

Chiongbian said safety barriers are also in place for the mutual protection of vendors and guests on top of the standard social distancing measures.

“On our end, there will be checking of temperature, wearing of masks at all times except when seated and eating, social distancing, one-way flow of traffic and contactless alcohol stations. For the foodprenuers there will be the use of hairnet, face mask, gloves and barrier between customers and staff,” he said.

All the staff will also undergo rapid testing.

“We are really doing this for start-ups to let them have a chance to compete with branded names and these platforms, Let’s Eat Bai to LEB to Sugbo Mercado, give them that leverage to be branded and compete against any local or national brands after,” Chiongbian said. (JOB)
