P113-M worth of marijuana bricks intercepted in Clark

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- A van containing dried marijuana bricks was intercepted by authorities inside the Clark Freeport Zone over the weekend.

Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Central Luzon Director Christian Frivaldo reported that the van initially became a subject of hot pursuit after its driver refused to be inspected at the established checkpoint inside the freeport.

Authorities were able to catch up with the said utility van and upon inspection, numerous bricks of dried marijuana leaves were found inside the vehicle.

This prompted the operatives to arrest the driver and passenger of the van, who were identified as Morgano Manalastas and Ronald Miranda, both residents of Angeles City.

Further investigation revealed that intercepted van contained a total of 97 rectangular bricks of dried marijuana leaves and 10 oblong-shaped bricks of the same kind, with a combined weight of 113 kilos and estimated worth of P13-million.

Charges for violation of Section 11, Article II of Republic Act 9165 are currently being prepared for filing against the suspects.
