CEBU walked away with five medals in the 2020 Smart/MVP Sports Foundation Online National Taekwondo Age Group Poomsae Championships last Aug. 9.
Cebu’s medal tally was two golds and three silvers from a total of 22 participating jins in 17 different categories.
Lewreena Mhary Chuan of Toledo Taekwondo Team nabbed the gold medal in the Blue Female Cadet category, while her teammate Gianna Arnaiz also won gold in the Yellow Female Grade School division.
Maria Avril Nim Rivera, another jin from Toledo Taekwondo Team, took home silver in the Blue Female Cadet division; Erica Amora of Star Taekwondo won silver in the Brown Female 10-11 years old category; while Star Lava TKD’s Yassy Nina Casaverde also bagged silver in the Blue Female 10-11 years old class.
This is the fourth online tournament by the Philippine Taekwondo Association (PTA) since the restriction of sporting events due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The first three online tournaments that the PTA successfully staged were the 2020 Smart/MVP Sports Foundation National Online Poomsae Taekwondo Championships last May 29 to 31, the 2020 Smart/MVP Online National Taekwondo Speed Kicking Championships last July 11 and 12, and the 2020 Smart/ MVPSF Online Taekwondo Inter-School Poomsae Championships last July 25 and 26.
The PTA will have another national online tournament, the 2020 Smart/MVPSF Online National Age Group Taekwondo Speed Kicking Championships, on Aug. 22 and 23. (EKA)
