WORKERS from Cebu Province will be strictly checked if they have registered for a work travel pass through an online mobile application.

This after Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia announced on Tuesday, August 11, 2020, that law enforcement personnel will strictly check for work travel passes issued through the WeTrace app on Wednesday, August 12, or the first day of the implementation of her Executive Order 20-C.

“If they have not yet secured a work travel pass through the WeTrace app, they can always wait until they can secure one. Because if they plan to work on Wednesday, they will be checked if they pass by any border towards Cebu City,” Garcia said during her live media briefer at the Capitol on Tuesday afternoon.

Garcia’s new executive order mandates all workers living in the Province but working in Cebu City to register via WeTrace app so they can be issued with a work travel pass by their respective local government units.

Those with mobile phones can download the app whether through Android or IOS.

But for those without mobile phones, Garcia advised them to approach their respective municipal governments so they can be issued with a work travel pass.

Workers are required to prepare their company IDs, worker’s certificate and an updated medical certificate.

Cebu Province is under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) except for Talisay City and towns of Minglanilla and Consolacion which are under general community quarantine (GCQ).

Garcia said their constituents, especially workers working in Cebu City, need to follow this precaution.

She said that registering through the WeTrace app could help in the contact tracing efforts if ever a worker from Cebu Province gets sick of Covid-19.

“Cebu City is now on GCQ and therefore there are additional establishments that are now allowed to open. If there are establishments opening, that means workers from the Province can now resume work in the city. Why are we asking for a work travel pass? Because before, when we asked only for certificate of employment and company ID in our borders, the number of positive cases in Cebu shot to 500 percent,” Garcia said.

Garcia said by registering workers in Cebu Province through the WeTrace app, it could help curb Covid-19 in the Province and the city.

Registering on the app will also help local government units in the Province to easily trace Covid-19 cases.

For those living in the Province but staying in the city, Garcia urged them to stay in the city if they don’t want to register through the app. (ANV, JKV)
