COMMANDER of Coast Guard Sub Station in San Carlos City POI Hospicio B. Toledanes said that the coastal areas of San Carlos City are free from locally stranded individuals (LSIs) who want to illegally enter the city to get home to their families in Negros Occidental amidst the Covid-19
pandemic.
Toledanes cited that they have strengthened security measures over the sea borders and held a dialogue with the coastal communities in the city, urging residents to be vigilant and to report any sightings of unusual boats or individuals within their premises.
This after six LSIs from the province of Cebu were reported to have entered the city without proper documentation through So. Trozo, Barangay Buluangan in July 2020.
Toledanes added that said LSIs, including the motor banca operator, were immediately turned over to the proper authority for further investigation and swab testing and that they may face charges for violating the necessary health protocols since the whole city was still under the modified general community quarantine (MGCQ).
The Coast Guard Sub Station San Carlos together with the Maritime Police and Bantay Dagat Task Force continue to patrol the sea borders against LSIs and light vessels attempting to enter the borders illegally as well as check cargo ships docking in San Carlos City port.
As of now, there are already 30 confirmed positive cases of Covid-19 in San Carlos City, of which one died and 19 have recovered. Positive cases are mostly LSIs who came from the province of Cebu. (PR)
