Covid-19 death toll in PNP rises to 13

ANOTHER police officer had succumbed to the 2019 coronavirus disease (Covid-19), bringing the death toll in the Philippine National Police (PNP) to 13.

PNP spokesperson Brigadier General Bernard Banac on Thursday, August 13, 2020, said the latest fatality was a 46-year-old policeman from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).

The policeman was assigned as a frontliner. He died on Tuesday, August 11, at the C.T. Reyes Hospital in Tanauan City, Batangas.

NCRPO Director Debold Sinas said the policeman was the third Covid-19 casualty of the NCRPO.

Sinas said they were coordinating with the Tanauan police to provide assistance to the family of the deceased personnel.

"We extend our deepest sympathy to the bereaved family of our personnel. His service to PNP will never be forgotten. NCRPO will exert all our efforts to protect our men and prevent similar untimely untoward incidents,” he said.

As of Wednesday, the PNP has recorded 2,732 policemen who contracted Sars-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19.

Under monitoring are 2,202 suspected Covid-19 cases and 764 probable cases.
