2 cops injured in road crash

TWO policemen were injured in a road crash while avoiding a stray calf in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported Thursday, August 13, 2020.

Police Captain Edwin Duco, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, disclosed the incident happened around 12:45 p.m. Wednesday in Sitio Barobo in Lintugop village, Aurora, Zamboanga Del Sur.

Duco identified the victims as Police Staff Sergeant Dennis Aligato, 39, and Police Corporal Rey Tumaroy, 33, of Aurora Municipal Police Station.

Duco said that prior to the accident, the two policemen aboard a patrol car driven by Aigato, were conducting roving patrol.

He said that upon arrival at the junction of Romarate and San Jose villages, a motorcycle driven by an unidentified person not wearing a facemask and helmet overtook the patrol car at high speed that prompted the two policemen to chase the motorbike.

However, he said that upon reaching Sitio Barobo in Lintugop village, Aligato lost control of the steering wheel when he avoided a stray calf that suddenly crossed the road.

He said that Aligato and Tumaroy were injured when the patrol car fell into a ditch and hit the concrete driveway.
