THE Technical Infrastructure Committee (TIC) of Cebu City, together with the telecommunication companies, will relaunch its program to rid the city streets of the spaghetti wires.

Cebu City Councilor Jerry Guardo, the TIC chairman, said the spaghetti wire eradication program will start along Urgello St. on Aug. 17, 2020.

Among those who will participate in the relaunching of the wire cleanup program include the PLDT/Smart/Sun that will deploy three teams; Globe Telecom with two teams; and one team each from the Visayan Electric, Sky Cable, Cine Cebu Television Network Inc., Eastern Telecom, Converge and another team from the Department of Public Services (DPS)-Streetlighting Division.

Guardo said the Parks and Playground Commission may also participate in case some wires get snagged in trees.

Guardo said the cleanup of dangling wires was halted in February due to the novel coronavirus crisis.

“It’s about time we cleaned them up because regular work has resumed,” said Guardo.

He added that also included in the clean-up is the removal of wooden posts that are no longer utilized.

Guardo said after the whole stretch of Urgello St., they will proceed to other areas which also need immediate action. He said they chose Urgello St. as the pilot area for the relaunching due to a lot of dangling and sagging wires on the street.

He said it usually takes one to two weeks for the cleaning of spaghetti wires. (JJL)
