Milo Homecourt brings sports clinics online

THE Milo Homecourt Campaign (MHC), which was recently launched, aims to engage more Dabawenyo children with its signature sports programs online.

Nestle Philippines Assistant Vice President Lester P. Castillo said, “This is an initiative together with our partners to bring sports into the homes.”

He said during a virtual presser Thursday, August 13, that the MHC aims “to nourish kids’ journey to success with nutritious energy and inspiration to grow with sports.”

Since the pandemic has greatly affected children’s activities as they are required to stay at home and since Milo’s regular sports programs like the Milo Marathon, sports clinics, and Milo Little Olympics were also shelved, the MHC campaign came to fruition.

“We want to empower parents to continue their children’s champion journey kahit sa bahay lang sila,” Castillo said.

He underscored that with MHC, the children can still be active in sports with their homes as their new arena.

He cited two pillars in the campaign: Inspire parents and kids, and equip them with evolved sports programs.

Milo’s free online sports programs will be handled by experts to ensure quality lessons for kids. A total of 33 video content for nine sports will be shown online for easy access to participants.

Instead of being glued to their gadgets, Castillo said MHC will give children an alternative to still be active at home.

Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Commissioner Charles Raymond A. Maxey, who also hails from Davao City, commended MHC organizers for addressing the need of children staying in their homes.

“We are happy to have Milo as an ally in empowering our trainers and we will continue to collaborate in various endeavors to further uplift sports development in the Philippines,” Maxey said, adding that PSC will provide speakers and coaches through the NSAs for the MHC.

Sports Development Division of the City Mayor’s Office (SDD-CMO) officer-in-charge Mikey Aportadera, for his part, said, “The Davao City Government value sports and exercise as instruments for nation building. We are delighted to know that Milo is taking a similar step in adapting to the new normal to keep sports and exercise alive.”

He said the MHC complements well with the city’s Aktibo Dabawenyo program and that he looks forward to fortify the partnership with Milo in developing future athletes even while they are at home.

Southeast Asian (SEA) Games 2019 women’s marathon gold medalist and National Milo Marathon women’s champion Christine Hallasgo, for her part, was also among the guests during the virtual presser.

Davao coordinator Kenneth Sai of Vantage Sports Promotions moderated the event.
