WITH the increasing cases of the coronavirus disease in Benguet province, another provincial quarantine facility in Barangay Wangal in La Trinidad was opened.

Governor Melchor Diclas, during the meeting with the Department of Education (DepEd)–Benguet and the 13 mayors, on Friday, August 14, 2020, announced the opening of the facility in a bid to expand resources of the province.

The Benguet General Hospital (BeGH) is filled to its maximum capacity, making way for the Provincial Quarantine Facility II to accommodate new patients.

Diclas on Thursday said there were 14 new cases recorded in a day, with nine accommodated at the new quarantine facility; others were admitted to BeGH.

As of Thursday, Benguet Public Information Office data said there are 122 confirmed Covid-19 cases in the province, with 53 active cases, 68 recoveries and one death.

BeGH data showed 41 Covid-19 patients were already admitted, as of Friday afternoon, August 14.

Benguet earlier used the Benguet Training Center (BTC) as a triage center and a temporary quarantine facility for locally stranded individuals (LSIs) and returning overseas Filipino workers (ROFWs).

The local government unit of La Trinidad on Friday inaugurated the Concordia Colleges, an 18-room dorm-type facility located at Longlong, Barangay Puguis, which can now accommodate 36 patients.

The facility is equipped with WiFi, hot and cold shower and comfort room per room. The facility will house LSIs and ROFs from the valley.

This week, Mayor Romeo Salda issued an executive order effective August 17 requiring the online registration of ROFs and LSIs prior to their entry in the town, as agreed by the members of the Municipal Inter-Agency Task Force.

The mayor added that online registration is a proven, safe and convenient method of providing efficient data management and detailed reporting and can help curb the contagion by preventing possible crowding at concerned offices.
