Zamboanga cops seize P600,000 smuggled cigarettes

OPERATIVES of Zamboanga City Police Office’s Station 6 have seized some 34 master cases of smuggled cigarettes worth P600,000 in a separate law enforcement operations in this southern port city, an official said Saturday, August 15, 2020.

Police Brigadier General Jesus Cambay, Jr., Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula director, said the first confiscation was made around 12:45 a.m. Friday at a finger wharf in Arena Blanco village, this city.

Cambay said the police team recovered 15 master cases of smuggled cigarettes with brand name “Cannon” with an estimated value of P300,000.

Cambay said the second confiscated came around 8:30 a.m. Friday at the mangrove in Sitio Kapok in Mampang village, this city.

He said the operatives recovered an abandoned 19 master cases of smuggled cigarettes with brand names “Bravo” and “Astro” worth P300,000.

He said the recovery of smuggled cigarettes stemmed after a concerned citizen reported to the ZCPO’s Station 6 that unidentified persons were unloading smuggled cigarettes from a motorboat.

However, he said the unidentified persons escaped aboard a motorboat upon sensing the arrival of the police team.

He said the recovered smuggled cigarettes are under the temporary custody of the ZCPO’s Station 6 and will be turned over to the Bureau of Customs for proper disposition. (SunStar Zamboanga)
