Dead PWDs ‘still entitled’ to cash aid from City Hall

FAMILIES of deceased persons with disability (PWDs) in Cebu City, who were qualified to receive financial assistance from the City Government, will be given their cash assistance.

Since the City last distributed the financial assistance to PWDs in March, qualified PWDs who died in April, May and June are still entitled to the aid.

The City Government will be distributing P3,000 each to around 11,000 PWDs to cover the months of April, May and June.

In the executive order (EO) issued by Mayor Edgardo Labella on Friday, Aug. 14, 2020, families of PWDs who died in April will receive P1,000; those who died in May will receive P2,000; and those who died in June will receive P3,000.

Under EO 87, the parent or guardian or the closest kin of the deceased PWD is authorized to claim the money.

The authorized claimant should present the PWD’s identification (ID) card, death certificate and a government-issued ID or voter’s certification or barangay certification.

After the authorized claimant get the cash assistance, the PWD ID should be surrendered to the disbursing officer.

For a PWD who is mentally challenged or a minor, the parent or guardian or the closest kin must present a valid ID and the PWD’s ID to claim the assistance.

The City will honor authorization letters of PWDs who cannot be present during the distribution. The letter must contain a valid reason for the recipient’s absence as well as attached photocopies of the IDs of the PWD and the authorized person.

Labella has ordered a house-to-house distribution while the city is still on community quarantine to contain the spread of the coronvirus disease 2019.

Qualified PWDs must post a sign on their doors or gates with their full name and PWD ID number so disbursing officer can easily identify their houses.

When receiving the assistance, PWDs must wear face masks and sanitize their hands before and after the distribution.

PWDs should use their own pens in signing the payroll.

Personnel of the Persons with Disability Assistance Office of the Department of Social Welfare and Services, together with personnel of the City Treasurer’s Office and the Cebu City Police Office in coordination with barangays will distribute the cash assistance. (JJL)
