Liloan launches mobile app for residents

IN WHAT is considered a first in any town, the municipality of Liloan launched on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2020, the “LiveLoveLiloan App,” a mobile app that incorporates contact tracing, online medical consultation, an electronic transport system and a platform for information exchange and assistance between the public and the local government unit.

Each resident user will be designated a specific Resident ID QR code that will allow effective contact tracing and more efficient monitoring and delivery of government assistance.

For Covid- related functions, the location data of a user is tagged when one is exposed to a positive case, or is a potential carrier. This will assist the Liloan Covid-19 Operations Center to zero in on hotspots, immediately detect infection chains, isolate and ensure prevention and containment.

The “LiveLoveLiloan App” also has a transport monitoring guide dubbed “LET’S Go!” which is short for the Liloan Electronic Transport System that will give residents real time information on the availability and location of public utility buses and vehicles.

Through Global Positioning System (GPS) installed in PUBs and PUVs, the commuting public will be guided on what public transport to ride to reach a destination, connecting routes, exact time of arrival and departure and designated drop-off points. This is made possible through Ride Hero Inc., which is the local government’s partner in the development of the mobile app.

At the Memorandum of Agreement signing with the Municipality of Liloan, Ride Hero Inc. chief executive officer Mike Cubos said: “We are grateful to partner with the Municipality of Liloan in its efforts toward becoming a smart city. This app is the first of its kind in terms of the comprehensive features it offers to residents, and we are happy to find in Mayor Christina Frasco a commonality in vision in using technology to improve people’s lives.”

Months ago when Cebu was still under enhanced community quarantine, the Municipality of Liloan launched ‘GugMed,’ an online medical consultation for people who had difficulty going to clinics because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Faster access to online medical consultation service is now possible as the portal will be directly accessible through the app.

With the iReport feature, the mobile app enables Liloan town residents to report matters needing assistance in their barangays or sitios and directly engage with the town government.

Forthcoming features of the app will include online payment options for non-contact transactions with the Municipal Government, an online marketplace for local vendors and online employment portal for job seekers.

The LiveLoveLiloan app is seen to boost further the local government’s efforts to manage the Covid-19 pandemic and had recently earned praise from DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu at the meeting he called with all local chief executives of the Province of Cebu in early August.

Mayor Christina Frasco was invited by the DILG to present Liloan’s innovations and best practices in fighting the pandemic. At the meeting held at the Citadines Hotel in Cebu City, Cimatu remarked that he was “very impressed” with the Liloan local government’s smart technology-based approach to fighting the spread of Covid-19, which also includes aerial drone monitoring of its barangays.

Frasco said: “The LiveLoveLiloan App allows us to provide people with the level of convenience and connectivity crucial to navigating the new normal. In Liloan we are driven by the desire to continually increase the quality of life of our people. Toward that end, we are introducing innovations in governance that are inclusive, proactive and empathetic to the people’s needs.” (PR)
