THE celebration of masses in all churches throughout the Diocese of Bacolod will be suspended anew from August 24 to 30, 2020.
In a press statement issued by the diocese Thursday, August 20, 2020, Bishop Patricio Buzon said the move is in solidarity with the frontliners.
Buzon said this is the diocese's response to the call for help made by the medical societies in Bacolod and Negros about limiting mass mobility and gatherings as concrete measures of addressing the continuing spike in the number of Covid-19 cases.
"With our hospitals critically reaching their limits, medical practitioners and service staff overwhelmed and overworked and some getting infected, the diocese sees it necessary to give the much-needed support for frontliners and the hospitals through a gesture of sympathy of a week-long suspension of masses," the bishop added.
Buzon hopes that the initiative will help in limiting the movement of people, alleviate the morale of frontliners and heighten the awareness of people as to the seriousness of the Covid-19 situation.
