A POLICEWOMAN allegedly involved in extorting money from resellers of face shields was arrested in an entrapment operation in front of a mall in Sta. Mesa, Manila on Thursday, August 20, 2020.

Staff Sergeant Clarissa dela Cruz, who was assigned at the Regional Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit (RPHAU) of the National Capital Region Police Office, was brought to the Philippine National Police Intelligence Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) in Camp Crame for the filing of criminal and administrative charges against her.

IMEG Director Ronald Lee said the operation stemmed from the complaints of three individuals who were arrested by the Novaliches police on August 19 over charges of estafa filed by Dela Cruz.

Dela Cruz supplies face shields to online sellers.

She filed charges against a certain Miss Alla, a middleman who allegedly failed to pay her back, as well as resellers Gilbert Ardona and Miss Pandapatan.

Dela Cruz then coordinated with the PNP personnel of Police Station 4, Novaliches, Quezon City for their arrest.

She did not, however, pursue the charges against the three individuals and instead demanded that they pay her P40,000 to P50,000 as damages for the failed transactions.

Lee said Dela Cruz brought Miss Alla to her residence and demanded P10,000 for her release.

Other persons claiming to have been victimized by Dela Cruz sought the help of the Tulfo radio program.

Lee said the arrest of Dela Cruz was part of his order to intensify operations against PNP personnel who take advantage of the Covid-19 situation. (SunStar Philippines)
