THE second leg of the Alaska Fortified Ironkids virtual race kicks off today and tomorrow, August 22 and 23, as part of the 10th anniversary celebration of the much-awaited annual kids triathlon program of the milk brand.

Due to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic, the kids triathlon event will not push through this year along with the Ironman and so organizers instead launched an all-digital running program.

Sunrise Events Inc. General Manager Princess Galura, in a recent virtual presser, said: "Having an all-digital run program means we are able to bring the race to more kids, ranging from four to 16 years old, either beginners or trained runners. This is a good opportunity for the kids to jump start their journey to a healthier lifestyle, even without going outside. For the existing Ironkids, it's a good program to continue their development in the sport."

The virtual race, according to her, adapts to the current situation where kids are not allowed to leave their homes as part of quarantine control measures.

At least 10 legs will be staged in all weekends since August 15 and 16 to October 17 and 18, thus giving opportunities for children participants "to start slow, train, build up, and beat their own records in a 3-month period."

Those interested may sign up at IRONKIDSphil.com/KEEPFITATHOME for 1 kilometer, 1.5 kilometer, 2-kilometer, or 3-kilometer run categories and will be clustered per age group.

Participants may register per race, or in discounted packaged rates for five events and 10 events.
