Work on 2 isolation centers ‘to be completed by Aug. 28’

THE ongoing construction of the isolation centers at the Norkis Park on Plaridel St. and the Cebu North Bus Terminal (CNBT) in Barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City should be finished by Aug. 28, 2020.

According to Mandaue City Department of General Services (DGS)head Marivic Cabigas, the facility at the Norkis Park is 50 percent done.

She said they have posted 20 DGS and 11 City Engineering Office (CEO) personnel at the site.

She said they decided to assist the CEO to fast-track the construction.

Cabigas said they started clearing the area after it was inspected by Mayor Jonas Cortes on Aug. 11. Construction began on Aug. 13.

Cabigas said they’ve already installed 64 rooms at the Norkis Park and a doctors’ and nurses’ quarters where the swabbing station will be located.

She said the rooms will not be air-conditioned, but these have good ventilation. However, her personnel confirmed that there are mosquitoes at night.

Cabigas said they will spray insecticide to prevent patients from acquiring mosquito-borne diseases like dengue.

She said they’ve also installed comfort rooms in addition to existing ones.

Cabigas said work on both facilities continues even during holidays.

The City Government was forced to convert the Norkis Park and the CNBT into isolation centers after it received a memorandum from the Department of Education in July to evacuate public schools it had used to house coronavirus disease 2019 patients with mild or no symptoms. (KFD)
