AROUND 87 families in Purok 4B in Barangay Gusa, Cagayan de Oro City are placed under localized focused containment after one of its residents tested positive for coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
The said resident is a 28-year-old male who worked for a huge company. The man had a cough on August 13 and went to a private hospital's outpatient department for consultation.
He was treated and recovered from his symptom on August 20. He was swabbed on August 18 as a requirement by the company he worked for. His swab sample was sent to the Southern Philippines Medical Center in Davao City.
The result, which came out on the evening of August 22, is positive.
The 28-year-old man is asymptomatic, at present, and has no known comorbidity. He is currently staying at the Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility.
The City Health Office has identified 15 direct contacts of the man, eight of whom are household contacts, five are workplace contacts and two are healthcare workers.
According to Nic Jabagat, the acting chief of the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Department (CDRRMD), the area in Barangay Gusa will not be as problematic in securing compared to the other sites that were placed under localized focused containment.
He further said that they have designated quarantine control checkpoints in the early morning of August 24 based on the recommendation of the City Health Office.
Food aid will also be delivered to each of the households in the area, Jabagat added.
City Health Office Epidemiologist Dr. Joselito Retuya said the barangay health personnel stationed at the quarantine area control checkpoints were issued thermal guns to conduct temperature checks on the residents.
City Mayor Oscar Moreno, for his part, said that if company employees would be quarantined in the Cagayan de Oro's isolation units, it would strain the city's resources.
He asked the major private companies to set up their own isolation facility to house their employees.
