THREE undocumented high-powered firearms were handed over to the troops of 4th Mechanized Infantry Battalion in Poona Piagapo, Lanao del Norte, official said Tuesday.

Lieutenant Colonel Domingo Dulay, Jr., commander of the 4th Mechanized Infantry Battalion, said the firearms were turned over to him over the weekend at the municipal hall by Poona Piagapo Mayor Muslimah Macol.

Dulay said the firearms include two M4 Bushmaster rifles, and one caliber .30 Garand rifle.

Dulay said the firearms were previously owned by private individuals.

“The voluntary surrender of loose firearms is the result of the unit’s intensified campaign and the steadfast cooperation of the local chief executive and the community to eradicate loose firearms and prevent violent activities in the area,” Dulay said.

He called on private individuals with undocumented firearms, ammunitions, or explosives to surrender them voluntarily in order to avoid criminal charges. (SunStar Zamboanga)
