P10,000 total cash in birthday chess

A TOTAL cash prize of P10,000 is at stake in the Andi Paula 1st Birthday Online Chess Tournament set on Saturday, August 29, via lichess.org.

Tournament manager arena grand master (AGM) Jimzon Trangia bared this in a Facebook post, enjoining avid chess enthusiasts to join the tournament open for Filipinos and foreigners.

He said the champion will pocket P4,000, while the runner-up will take home P2,000 and the third placer will receive P1,400. The fourth and fifth players will claim P700 and P500, respectively, while the sixth to 10th placers will each get P200 along with the top lady and top kiddie under-14 chessers.

Registration fees are pegged at P40 for 15-above participants, P20 for 14-below and lady registrants, and US$2 for foreign players. Entry fees may be sent to Davao City-based national arbiter Ely Acas (GCash 0915-4514475), to Trangia (GCash 0927-2436623) or to cecilioacas@yahoo.com Paypal account.

The event is sponsored by Andelson Berondo who staged the chessfest in celebration of his daughter's first birthday.

Meanwhile, Johann Cedric Gaddi outshined DabAwenyo James Infiesto, a national para chess coach and National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) regional director, at the close of the 32nd APM Non Master Chess 960 Arena held over the weekend via lichess.org.

Gaddi of Taytay, Rizal earned a total of 26 points in 17 games to clinch the title while Infiesto garnered 20 points in 14 games. Rounding up the top five were Sherwin Tiu (19 points), Michael Metrio (18) and Roland Bai Villa (17).

The top three winners got P500, P300, and P200 cash prizes, respectively, while the next two placers settled for P100 apiece.
